Nominated Architect - Nicolas Diaz

NSW Registered Architect #12039
Registered Landscape Architect (AILA)

Nicolas Diaz is a Byron Bay-based Architect and Landscape Designer. For nearly a decade, he has designed small residential projects and collaborated on large-scale complex multi-res/ mixed-use projects in Sydney and the North Coast of NSW.
Nico is an Architect and Landscape Designer who operates primarily in the broader built environment and nurtures a passion for integrating nature with built form.
He is inspired by the raw, ancient beauty of the Australian landscape and its comparisons to his native Argentina, a land stretching from the tropics in the north to the solitary emptiness of Patagonia in the far south. This synergy allows Nico to transfer his knowledge to deliver Australian buildings and landscapes that are embedded in place and the functions and aesthetics more suited for the intended users.
Nico employs local construction systems, is focused on managing costs and offers contemporary spaces and gardens as an appealing design solution. He strives for simplicity in built form and landscapes that blur the division between indoors and outdoors. He designs elegant modern homes and gardens, that respond to clients' visions and uses sustainable materials.
He works differently merging landscape & architecture. Nico demonstrates an interest in modern living and a desire to connect international expertise to challenge traditional views while employing local resources.

We establish it in the design from the outset. We keep up-to-date with emerging resources and innovations in the energy efficiency field. Also, we look at how our client's habits can be treated with regard to living with nature. A house that requires minimal care will need less energy. Flexible multi-purpose spaces can reduce buildings' energy consumption footprints while encouraging our clients to experience a healthier coastal lifestyle.

Plus Studio focuses on what clients want, minimising the demand for mechanical services, providing excellent insulation and looking at the location of openings and awnings to offset costs while giving thoughtful responses to the Byron climate.
It is crucial for us to benefit from the ingress of sunlight and the inclusion of local native planting to our landscapes.

Our sustainable strategy for residential renovations and new projects embraces our knowledge of the Byron Shire Council regulations. We propose flexible use of space, utilising sustainable building principles to reduce embodied energy, whether the project is a house in Byron Bay or a complex residential project in Sydney
